@solomx IMHO testing many versions is a thing for big companies. Does the
latest version work?

Re: [RESULT] [VOTE] Apache OpenMeetings 2.0 Incubating Release Candidate 1

Posted by greenes <zu...@gmail.com>.
Would be good if you, the developers, should say specifically what we
should test specific version.
So each one of we would expose their test scenarios and the respectives
results.
Because with version:

apache-openmeetings-incubating-2.0.0.r1338935-15-05-2012_2315

...get different results while others versions on the same scenario:

OM2 server in Spain and three clients machines respectively in Chile,
Colombia and Spain.

Or the server in Chile or in Colombia.

So was tested.

@solomax the proper place to mention rtmpt issue is a release notes. JFYI,
Jira can prepare release notes automatically.

Re: [RESULT] [VOTE] Apache OpenMeetings 2.0 Incubating Release Candidate 1

I guess we need to perforce additional testing with various versions of
ffmpeg or add note like "OM is proofed to work with ffmpeg 0.10.3 (please
see instructions in wiki, link, link)"

BTW we need the note somewhere RTMPT is currently broken in screensharing.

@Maxim: Is there anything we need to improve in docs or code regarding
FFMPEG before packaging the next release candiate from your point of view?

Thanks

I don#t know the current situation for Xuggle.
The company was aquired some time ago. Seems like the new company somehow
continued support but on very low level if you follow the statistics:
https://github.com/xuggle

In the Xuggle relied on FFMPEG internally. I have no idea if they still do,
but I think they planned to kill the Red5 Bridge since FFMPEG supports RTMP
natively.

@Sebastian I just found this project:
http://www.xuggle.com (Xuggler is the easy way to uncompress, modify, and
re-compress any media file (or stream) from Java. See licensing
<http://www.xuggle.com/xuggler/licensing>for
licensing information.)

The only possible issue: it's binaries are GPL and sources are LGPL licensed

I'm quite happy if it turns out that the FFMPEG versions will work as I
have no idea what to change in the code of OpenMeetings. FFMPEG
installation is really a System Administration thing that we do rely on.
It would be great if we one day could have a native Java implementation of
our convertion processes. However I don't think that we will be able to
re-implement FFMPEG functionality in the short term.

... and at some version of FFMPEG they have changed a parameter, that is
why there is a config to switch between FFMPEG versions:
http://incubator.apache.org/openmeetings/FFMPEGVersionSwitch.html
But I can't say which version of FFMPEG needs the switch. I only know the
GIT revision ID.

You just need to make sure libmp3lame is enabled and via apt-get this
option is never true as far as I know.

Seems I was wrong
There are stable ffmpeg versions for all 0.8.x, 0.9.x, 0.10.x, 0.11.x
versions.
Could you please tell me (and maybe document somewhere) which ffmpeg
version is recommended 8, 9, 10 or 11? (and I'll to configure it on my
machines)

IMHO the easiest way for the end user will be to use apt-get version

I have always used ffmpeg shipped with ubuntu
I'm trying to understand what is going on :(

The latest ffmpeg version is 0.11.1
The latest stable version 0.8.4

I have problems with latest version shipped with Ubuntu 12.04 -> 0.8.1
I believe the latest stable ffmpeg should be OK for OM (and it was)
According to my error there is something wrong with audio codec (I'll try
to revert red5 version and perform additional check)
