I already added a hack in MPIR-290 for that: MPIR hacks scm connection and developerConnection to remove everythig after the ".git"
then the workaround with properties is not necessary any more since MPIR 2.8

Notice that scm.url can be interpolated if you choose a public url that supports adding artifact-id from one module to another: like https://github.com/org/project/tree/master/
