Background of table

Hi , Cocoon - users !

I have a strange problem on my hands. Please help !
I am trying to put a background image on my HTML page generated through
Cocoon.

 I tried to apply the background , using this code :

<xsl:element name = "body">
  <xsl:attribute name ="background">
    <xsl:value-of select="image3Url"/>
  </xsl:attribute>
</xsl:element>

But it works fine if I write <body background = "a1.gif">

What could the problem be ?
The XSL compiles fine and gives no error.

Regards,
Swapnil
