When you want to search an artifact that is just a pom (a root, for instance), you can't find it when your search it, using either basic or advanced search.

I reproduced it in a clean and basic environment on windows : 
- install archiva 1.4 and create the admin user
- Upload a pom (just a pom) through the upload menu (see capture).
- Check that you can see it when you browse, and that you can open the pom (see captures). 
- Go to search menu, enter the name of the artifact in the query terms and click on the search button : no results found ! (see capture)
- Try again with advanced parameters, put the name of the artifact in the Artifact ID field and click on search (see capture) : no results found !

Searching jars or other kind of artifacts works perfectly. Only simple poms cannot be searched.
