Re: [VOTE] The first release candidate for Apache HBase 2.5.16 (RC0) is available

Posted by "张铎(Duo Zhang)" <pa...@gmail.com>.
OK, I think I found the problem.

In 2.5.15, javax.annotation:javax.annotation-api dependency is
introduced by libthrift, and in 2.5.16, we shade librift in
hbase-thirdparty and we loss the transitive
javax.annotation:javax.annotation-api dependency which causes the
problem.

And for hadoop3, since we build the project with jdk17, the jdk11+
profile will introduce javax.annotation dependency for us.

JDK8 only includes part of the javax.annotation, which does not
include the javax.annotation.Priority.

So here I think we should include it for all JDK builds, not only JDK11.

Thanks.

I can reproduce this locally with JDK8 + hbase-2.5.16-bin.tar.gz.

Just run start-hbase.sh...

Ah, integration test on 2.10.2 is broken for branch-2.5 on jenkins...

https://ci-hbase.apache.org/job/HBase-Integration-Test/job/branch-2.5/113/artifact/output-integration-hadoop-2.10.2/non-shaded/hbase--master-be4150bd4acd.log/*view*/

And it is broken for branch-2,6 too...

Re: [VOTE] The first release candidate for Apache HBase 2.5.16 (RC0) is available

TestCopyTable fails for me consistently, and it also fails on the
flaky bashboard.

Not sure if this is a just a test issue or something in our MR module
is broken...

Re: [VOTE] The first release candidate for Apache HBase 2.5.16 (RC0) is available

Posted by Umesh Kumar Kumawat <94...@gmail.com>.
  +1 (non-binding)

  I checked:

  - Signature: OK

  - Checksum: OK

  - LICENSE and NOTICE: In place

  - Rat check (17.0.14): OK

    - mvn clean apache-rat:check

  - Build from source (17.0.14): OK

    - mvn clean install -DskipTests -Dhadoop.profile=3.0

  - JUnit tests: OK

    - mvn test -P runAllTests -Dhadoop.profile=3.0
-Dsurefire.testFailureIgnore=true

  -Dsurefire.rerunFailingTestsCount=5

    - Tests run: 9,463, Failures: 0, Errors: 0, Skipped: 64, Flaky: 11
(passed on rerun)

    - TestMemStoreLAB: OOM with default 2.2g surefire heap on Apple Silicon
(M-series).

Passes with -Dsurefire.Xmx=13g. Root cause: testLABChunkQueue uses a fixed

1-second time window with 10 threads allocating 256KB chunks in a tight
loop.

Off-pool chunk creation in ChunkCreator is unbounded. On fast hardware
(Apple Silicon),

~50,000 chunks get allocated in 1 second (~12.5GB), exceeding heap.

On slower x86 CI machines, fewer chunks are allocated and it fits in 2.2g.

Not a code defect — hardware-speed-dependent. Suggest JIRA to add an
iteration
cap (e.g., 5000 total allocations

across all threads / based on total heap) to make memory usage
deterministic regardless of CPU speed.

    - TestCustomSaslAuthenticationProvider*: Requires Kerberos KDC,
environment-only.

    - TestMergesSplitsAddToTracker: Intermittent timeout, flaky.

Started a mini cluster in standalone mode, succeeded.

Check logs and web pages, it looks good.

Ran these shell commands, looks fine.

  create 'test', 'cf'

  list 'test'

  describe 'test'

  put 'test', 'row1', 'cf:a', 'value1'

  put 'test', 'row2', 'cf:b', 'value2'

  put 'test', 'row3', 'cf:c', 'value3'

  scan 'test'

  get 'test', 'row1'

  flush 'test'

  major_compact 'test'

  scan 'test'

  disable 'test'

  enable 'test'

  disable 'test'

  drop 'test'

  Run PerformanceEvaluation, all passed.

  ./bin/hbase pe --rows=10000 randomWrite 1

  ./bin/hbase pe --rows=10000 sequentialWrite 1

  ./bin/hbase pe --rows=10000 randomRead 1

  ./bin/hbase pe --rows=10000 scanRange 1

  Run IntegrationTestBigLinkedList, passed.

  ./bin/hbase org.apache.hadoop.hbase.test.IntegrationTestBigLinkedList
generator 25000000

  ./bin/hbase org.apache.hadoop.hbase.test.IntegrationTestBigLinkedList
verify

  - 25,000,000 nodes generated, 0 bad references, 0 undefined nodes.

Thanks

[WITHDRAWN] [VOTE] The first release candidate for Apache HBase 2.5.16 (RC0) is available

Posted by Andrew Purtell <ap...@apache.org>.
Casting my veto -1 for the identified regression. We will get HBASE-30328
and start RC1.

I checked:

* Signature: OK
* Checksum: OK
* LICENSE and NOTICE: In place
* Rat check (17.0.12): OK
  - mvn clean apache-rat:check
* Build from source (17.0.12): OK
  - mvn clean install -DskipTests -Dhadoop.profile=3.0

Start a mini cluster in standalone mode, succeeded.
Check logs and web pages, it looks good.

Run these shell commands, looks fine.
create 'test', 'cf'
list 'test'
describe 'test'
put 'test', 'row1', 'cf:a', 'value1'
put 'test', 'row2', 'cf:b', 'value2'
put 'test', 'row3', 'cf:c', 'value3'
scan 'test'
get 'test', 'row1'
flush 'test'
major_compact 'test'
scan 'test'
disable 'test'
enable 'test'
disable 'test'
drop 'test'

Run LTT to load 10000 rows, Passed
./bin/hbase ltt -write 20:1024 -num_keys 10000

Run these shell commands, looks fine
flush 'cluster_test'
major_compact 'cluster_test'
scan 'cluster_test', {LIMIT=>10}
count 'cluster_test'
