Speed issues

Maybe this is the wrong forum, but has anybody
precise numbers on Xalan-J vs. Xalan-C speed. I have seen
quite a few examples of "slow java" which actually were
examples of poor programming. I have also seen many
examples of "recognizable" improvement which was then
afterward hardly measurable. On the other hand, I admit
there is a difference and I'd like to have it quantified. Any
numbers right at hand.
