This sounds like a reasonable approach to take -- note that if we address these issues, we may also be
able to address similar issues with Servlet 2.4 methods (see http://thread.gmane.org/
gmane.comp.jakarta.struts.devel/19126)
However, I would be concerned that compiling against a newer Servlet API might result in true
incompatibilities being introduced. I'd want us to have a strategy to detect those correctly before going
too far down this route. I don't have a lot of experience managing code across multiple API versions
but maybe someone has exactly the right strategy ready to suggest?
