Subversion 1.6.18 released

I'm happy to announce the release of Apache Subversion 1.6.18.

This is a maintenance release which fixes known issues in the 1.6 release
series. Most importantly, several defects which can lead to FSFS repository
corruption have been fixed.

Known issues in this release are:

  - The regression test suite has not been updated to cope with APR
hash order randomisation introduced in APR-1.4.6. Running the test
suite with APR-1.4.6 can result in spurious test failures due to
randomised output ordering. Apart from these test suite problems,
Subversion 1.6.18 works fine with APR-1.4.6.
Users who run the test suite to verify compiled binaries and have
difficulties with recognizing spurious test failures should consider
using APR 1.4.5 instead. Please note that the subversion-deps archive
which accompanies the Subversion 1.6.18 release includes APR-1.4.6.

 - The 1.6.18 release artifacts include a www/ subdirectory which
contains HTML source files of the project's former website at
subversion.tigris.org. This was an oversight during packaging.
Because of this, the 1.6.18 release archives are slightly larger
than those of previous 1.6.x releases. We apologise for any extra
electrons being pushed around for no good reason.

If another 1.6.x release is made, both of the above problems will be
fixed in that release.

To obtain the 1.6.18 release, please visit:

Note that 1.6.18 is not an Apache-branded release. While it is linked
from the above download page for convenience, it is actually distributed
from subversion.tigris.org.

+1. (license-1.html is what our old releases refer to, so we can't
change it. Typical of svn devs to embed a version number into

Just to be clear: It's not a fork. It's the same project under a new umbrella.

Hmm. That looks wrong. I think license-1.html should display the
old licence and point out that newer releases use a difference licence.

It's cool. I've seen projects fork and keep the same name before, and it
wasn't pretty.

The COPYING file also mentions checking
http://subversion.tigris.org/license-1.html, which now points to
http://svn.apache.org/repos/asf/subversion/trunk/LICENSE, which an ASL 2.0
license. Any chance of getting the COPYING file updated to reflect the
newer license?

The 1.6 series is not distributed from apache.org for historical reasons.

1.7.0 was the first release after the Subversion project moved to the ASF.
The 1.7.x series is distributed with a copyright notice by the ASF and
under the Apache 2.0 licence.

The 1.6.x series is not distributed by the ASF. The copyright notice says
"CollabNet" and "many individuals". It uses a modified version of the
Apache 1.1 licence with no reference being made to the ASF.

I made a slight mistake in the release announcement by saying "Apache
Subversion 1.6.18" instead of "Subversion 1.6.18". The announcement
template text uses this wording and I didn't change it.

I've updated, and renamed, my github repository with RPM building tools for
RHEL 4, 5, and 6.

     https://github.com/nkadel/subversion-1.6.18-srpm

I'm puhing it to Repoforge ASAP. It's not beautiful, but it seems to work
well in my modest testing.

Cool. I got 1.6.17 in the pipeline for Repoforge publication, and I can
build and test this minor release for RHEL compatibility. It'll take a few
hours for all the environments I have on hand to build for..

What's going on with Apache bundling? I can change the downloadable tarball
references in the .spec files over at http://www.github.com;nkadel/, but
what's going on there?

Ah yes, that's probably it. Strange though that this hasn't come up
before. I signed 1.7.4 as well, and there my signature was picked up
correctly. Or maybe it's a new feature of release.py to scrape this
automatically?

BTW, I use a gpg executable built for Windows (so no Cygwin version or
something like that). So apparently that produces Windows line endings
by default.

The release.py script missed it somehow. Sorry about that.

Your sig is present in subversion-1.6.18.zip.asc. It contains windows
line endings while the other sigs in the file use Unix line endings.
Maybe this is what's causing release.py to miss the signature?

I suppose in the future we should mark the .asc files as text instead
of binary and set their eol-style to 'native'.

Hi Stefan,

Thanks for the new release! From the list of changes for 1.6.18 I
learned that the server side performance of "log -g" was improved
(r1152282). This sounds particularly interesting for our setup. Does a
similar fix exist in 1.7.4, too?
