On further investigation using a different 
decompression program for OS X, OpenUp,
I get the following error message:

End-of-central-directory signature not found.  Either this file is not
a zipfile, or it constitutes one disk of a multi-part archive.  In the
latter case the central directory and zipfile comment will be found on
the last disk(s) of this archive.
unzip:  cannot find zipfile directory in one of 
/Users/mydirectory/Desktop/yourOrder.zip or
/Users/mydirectory/Desktop/yourOrder.zip.zip, 
and cannot find /Users/mydirectory/Desktop/yourOrder.zip.ZIP
, period.

Is anyone successfully using zip on OS X 10.4.1
to zip files 1 - 7 meg and above?
The zip process seems to break when trying
to zip large files
