Prevent Multiple Sends
Hello Everyone,
I have been a bit confused on a matter of forwarding email. I am able to
forward email well, but for every message sent the recipient receives 27
messages. I looked in the spool manager and indeed there is a loop.
Now, the matcher "RemoteAddrNotInNetwork" works like a charm and few more
selective matchers do help. However, is there any code (i.e. setting the
mail object's to "GHOST") that will prevent a message from falling into this
loop?
I understand that the getMailetContext().sendMail(); sends the mailet to the
top of the root processing queue, but I am unsure the full effects and
consequences that has in preventing or allowing the feedback loop.
Any suggestions would be welcome!
Thanks,
Hut

Noel says it's a programming issue, look at it like this...
Its a logic problem, you have to ensure that any mail you meddle with and
re-send cannot be intercepted by the *same* mailet/matcher that it
originated from.
Yes GHOST helps, but it is more likely to be by fine tuning the mailet
ordering, sidelineing things into new processors, and the careful choice of
matchers that will break your loop *and* allow your functionality to be
enabled.

The spool log in DEBUG lists all matchers and mailets that process your
mail. You need to route messages so that only those you want to forward are
being forwarded.

Thank you Noel. I am not sure what is causing the loop. Even in Debug
mode, the spoolmanager is not mentioning anything that I fully understand.
Granted, I am new to JAMES.
I looked at the inside of AbstractRedirect mailet and found a few lines
directly inside the service menthod which change the original host to the
local host. I will try your idea and then continue.
Many Thanks,
Hut
P.S. With all questions that I ask, perhaps we need to pay you a stipend for
your time. :)

Well, what is causing the loop? What are you using to distinguish? This is
a programming issue: essentially matchers and mailets are elements of a
program that you write.

What loop? You've never said.
One thing that might help is for you to realize that messages generated
internally will have localhost as their source IP.
