Understanding Portal/Container-Interfaces

Hello,

could some of you help all of us Pluto-newbies better understand the role
and usage of the Interfaces between the Portal and the Container.

In particular could someone explain the SPI (i.e. the API, Portals have to
implement), maybe by means of a typical Portlet example?

PS: I read (in list-archives and on Pluto-homepage) that documents, which will
cover in particular this topic are planned or under development.
When will first releases of such a documentation appear?
Is there some  pre-release available?
(Maybe Wiki could be a good place)
