An update from your friendly competition, Stellation

I'm delighted to announce that the Stellation project has officially
recieved permission to submit our system to the Eclipse foundation as an
open-source project under the CPL license. We're working with the
Eclipse folks to get the site set up, which will take a few weeks. A
Stellation mailing list will be up soon to discuss the projects charter,
and once there's a charter thats acceptable to everyone that's
interested, our Eclipse project goes live. I'll send one more brief note
to this list when the mailing list goes live.

In the meantime, we've released our system manuals on our current
project webpage, http://domino.research.ibm.com/synedra/synedra.nsf. The
manuals should give you a good idea of what the system is like, and a
good sense of the internal design of the system. More manuals will
appear as we have time to finish writing them. (In particular, I'm
working on a manual for the primary system extension mechanism, called
an Agent, and a manual on the messaging system used for remote access
to the repository.)

(If you happen to notice any egregious formatting errors on that site,
please let me know. It's a Lotus Domino site, so it's a pain to mork
with, and it may have screwed something up. Our Eclipse site shouldn't
have that problem; it'll be run on apache.)

Just to give a quick taste of the capabilities of the system: we're able
to check in the entire linux kernel and sets of changes to it without
any trouble using a maximum heap of 128M.

Ahhh, thanks.

Quite readable, and looks compatible for code swaps in both
directions. That's a win all around.

Thank you. I'm thrilled beyond words to have finally gotten
through the whole process of getting permission to open it. It's been
a lot of work, but we made it. Now it's just a matter of logistics to
get the site set up.

We're working through Eclipse, which uses the CPL license. They have a
copy posted at http://www.eclipse.org/legal/cpl-v05.html.

Good news, Mark! Glad to hear it. I didn't find the actual license
anywhere on

   http://domino.research.ibm.com/synedra/synedra.nsf

so I don't know if Stellation and Subversion can swipe each others'
code, though (?)...
