Upgrade to 1.3.24 on WinNT

*****************************************************

Hi all,

My first post to the list, so if I breach any netiquette my apologies; its
ignorance not flamebait!
I hope I have subscribed to the correct list for the windows version of
apache, I couldn't find a separate list for windows issues.
My problem is this; last week I upgraded our apache server from a very
earlier version of 1.3.x to 1.3.23, which went very well, no problems.
Since 1.3.24 came out, I have downloaded the binary, and attempted to
install it. It stops before it installs with the error "another version is
installed, you must remove that version to install this one" (or very
similar). In add/remove programs there is both apache 1.3.23 and Apache web
server.
What I need to know is whether removing the 1.3.23 install will remove all
the configuration, httpd.conf etc, or whether I *should* be able to upgrade
from .23 to .24?
I have tried both the .exe and the .msi, and have updated the windows
installer version to 1.1.
server info: Windows NT 4.0 SP 5, IE 5 (I know, need to update. this is an
ongoing process!).

any help much appreciated.
thanks

John

[Wow, this disclaimer crap gets more annoying and intrusive every day.]

This is the correct list, although sometimes you can get better answers on
the new:comp.infosystems.www.servers.ms-windows groups, because one of the
primary windows developers occasionaly hangs out there.

In general, uninstalling shouldn't mess with your config files or
documents. Just to be sure, of course, I would make a backup of the
entire install someplace, just in case.

This problem was asked by someone else in the last few days, so please
check the archives for more discussion.

Joshua.
