The documentation at http://jackrabbit.apache.org/filevault/filter.html should be clarified with respect to ancestor nodes.

All uncovered ancestor nodes are
# created with the node type given in the package (in case they are given in the package and not yet existing in the repo)
# created with node type "nt:folder" (in case they are not given in the package and not yet existing in the repo)
# not touched (in case they are already existing in the repo)
