[BETA] Apache NetBeans 12.3-beta1 Installer available for tesing

Dear Apache NetBeans Community,

With recent changes to the Apache NetBeans Installer, we'd like to get
feedback from the community to ensure it works for others before we get to
the voting candidates.

The Installer can be found:
<https://dist.apache.org/repos/dist/dev/netbeans/netbeans/12.1/Apache-NetBeans-12.1-bin-macosx.dmg>
https://dist.apache.org/repos/dist/dev/netbeans/netbeans/12.3/Beta1/Apache-NetBeans-12.3b1-bin-macosx.dmg

SHA512 checksum file
https://dist.apache.org/repos/dist/dev/netbeans/netbeans/12.3/Beta1/Apache-NetBeans-12.3b1-bin-macosx.dmg.sha512

Please let us know if you have an issue with the installer.

Regards

John

Worked fine for me. macOS 11.1, OpenJDK Runtime Environment 15.0.1+9.
 (Zulu 15.28.51)

(Incidentally issues with the /usr/libexec/java_home tool may get fixed in
macOS 11.2... not that it matters since we have to work around the broken
version in 11.0 and 11.1.)

I have several JDKs installed, including the Lanai EA build for testing
with the Metal graphics pipeline. The installer picked 15. I assume it is
smart enough to decide that it shouldn't try to run on anything newer than
15?

Is not. This behavior started after upgrading to Big Sur.

Rodrigo,
How about the output to:

   - /usr/libexec/java_home --version 1.8+

If it is "/Library/Internet
Plug-Ins/JavaAppletPlugin.plugin/Contents/Home",
does using that for the netbeans_jdkhome parameter result in the "infinite
open projects state" when opening Netbeans?

Regards,
Christian

Re: [BETA] Apache NetBeans 12.3-beta1 Installer available for tesing

Posted by Christian Oyarzun <co...@oyarzun.net>.
Rodrigo,

A couple of questions.

   1. The installer worked and placed Netbeans in
   /Applications/NetBeans/Apache Netbeans 12.3b1.app. Correct?
   2. You were not able to run it from Finder without adding the JDK path
   in netbeans.conf?
   3. Given your JDK version, I assume you did not use sdkman to install
   java. Correct?
   4. From a terminal, what is the output to the following commands.
      1. /usr/libexec/java_home -V
      2. echo $JAVA_HOME
      3. launchctl getenv JAVA_HOME

Christian

Posted by Rodrigo Serra <ro...@jlab.com.ar>.
Work on Big Sur 11.1 and Oracle JDK 1.8.0_281.

The only bad thing is that it was necessary to modify the netbeans_jdkhome parameter of the netbeans.conf file but that also happens with version 12.2.

Rodrigo

Re: [BETA] Apache NetBeans 12.3-beta1 Installer available for tesing

Posted by Christian Oyarzun <co...@oyarzun.net>.
+1

1. Installed with no issue on macOS Catalina
2. File -> Open File... browsed to Downloads folder and macOS requested
permission for NetBeans to access the folder. [NETBEANS-5004]
3. Build a maven project.

*Product Version:* Apache NetBeans IDE 12.3-beta1

*Java:* 11.0.9.1; OpenJDK 64-Bit Server VM 11.0.9.1+12-LTS

*Runtime:* OpenJDK Runtime Environment 11.0.9.1+12-LTS

*System:* Mac OS X version 10.15.7 running on x86_64; UTF-8; en_US (nb)

*User directory:* /Users/christian.oyarzun/Library/Application
Support/NetBeans/12.3-beta1

*Cache directory:*
/Users/christian.oyarzun/Library/Caches/NetBeans/12.3-beta

FYI, it looks like you may have copy/pasted from an old email and changed
the text to the link but not the link itself. The dmg link also has a
reference to the old version.

The Installer can be found:

<
https://dist.apache.org/repos/dist/dev/netbeans/netbeans/12.1/Apache-NetBeans-12.1-bin-macosx.dmg

https://dist.apache.org/repos/dist/dev/netbeans/netbeans/12.3/Beta1/Apache-NetBeans-12.3b1-bin-macosx.dmg

John, thanks for putting together an installer early to get it tested by
other macOS users.
