Re: Free NoSQL Viewer for Popular NoSQL Databases Available

crossposting to user@couchdb.apache.org

Hi Michael,

I saw that Alexey Danchenkov (a colleague of you?) has added a link to
spviewer to the CouchDB Wiki at
https://wiki.apache.org/couchdb/CouchDB_tools. First of all it is highly
appreciated to add helpful software there. Thank you.

When visiting the website I recognised, that one has to register to be able
to download the viewer. I don't think this is cool and think that the
viewer should be downloadable without registering. This is the well known
behaviour in the OpenSource community. You could add for example a direkt
link without registration.

Another point is, that the buttons under the form are smashed (latest
Chrome on Mac OS X). See the attached screenshot.

I would be happy if you let us know about the idea to ask people for a
registration.

Thanks

Cheers

Andy

Sorry Jens - I thought in this case it would be ok ... I am at the
nosql-group but my answer was rejected nevertheless :) dunno why

But SPViewer isn't open source. It's a commercial product and they can do whatever they want for registration or sales. Just because it talks to an open source server doesn't make it part of the open source community — heck, MSIE talks to open source servers ;-)

PS: Also, please don't crosspost; it's not good netiquette. I just noticed before sending this that my reply would also have gone to nosql-discussion@googlegroups.com, which I'm not subscribed to and which would have bounced the message back to me.
