[math] FW: Jampack

hi Akhilesh

many thanks for the information.

i'm going to forward this to the development list so everyone can take
a look. (here at apache, we like to conduct as much business as
possible on the public lists so that the whole community has the chance
to enter into the discussion.)

When it rains it pours! :-)

If there is a reason that we need some space outside of Jakarta Commons,
its simply to sort out all the possible inclusions that could occur in
the long run. Really, allot of what we're doing here is not building
this functionality, as much as consolidating and organizing.

Its important to note that JAMA and JAMPACK are NIST projects. JAMA is
in Coordination with MathWorks (AKA MATLAB) and is the proposed standard
implementation Java Grande is working to get into the SDK.

http://www.javagrande.org/
http://math.nist.gov/javanumerics/jama/
ftp://math.nist.gov/pub/Jampack/Jampack/AboutJampack.html

They are highly involved with ACM and working to get Sun to integrate
this Numerics stuff into the sdk. We should be coordinating with them as
much as possible to provide a "unified front" of effort within JDC.

I'm tempted to contact the listed developers and see what the status is
on this and their possible interest in using Apache...
