deep context servlet and apache

Hey,
    i am unable to get apache to serve a servlet within a two folder context

currently 
    /webapps/stuff/xtrastuff

if i try tomcat port
     /stuff/xtrastuff/servlet/myservlet
    its ok

if i try apache port
    i get nothing

it tried every config option in tomcat-apache.conf with no joy
anybody else see this ?
