[jira] [Commented] (HAMA-998) Consider making failure detector plugable with incubator-gossip

Edward thanks!

It's interesting to see how this would evolve, particularly to run on top of p2p based Gossip. As mention by Edward, both projects would make use of FD for detecting remote processes. It would save Hama stack a lot of time in dealing complexity with layers underneath; and Hama can focus more on logic instead. Also when Gossip brings in more features such as consensus Hama can leverage or corporate into some relatives functionalities for ubiquitousness.

I will work on this later on. But feel free to pick this up if anyone is interested.

> I have spoken with [~chl501] who worked on the failure detector in Hama (https://github.com/apache/hama/tree/master/core/src/main/java/org/apache/hama/monitor/fd). I am working on the Gossip podling: http://gossip.incubator.apache.org/. We are wrapping up our first release. I am interested in evangelizing Gossip and I believe the is a fit here.
> I can see the FD code inside Hama has not been touched in a while. It is great that the code is stable!
> Hama could leverage apache-gossip. This would shrink the size and complexity of the Hama codevbase. Also Hama would benefit from what will hopefully be more frequent updates and features coming in incubator-gossip.
> I understand that Hama is a large, established, complex project. I would like to attempt to run Hama using incubator-gossip. I would make the choice a user configuration until we establish that incubator-gossip is reliable for Hama and the committers are comfortable.
> I wanted to feel out the Hama community and see if this proposal is something you are interested in before I dig into the specifcs
