What else was intended to have changed? The number of changed files
is surprising...

All is okay ... 108 changed files in [2] and 107 in [1].

Yes that is the problem. FOP adds a datestamp to every PDF.

The number of changes (r783443 [1]) is relatively big indeed but when I compared it with e.g. that of the last the last commit (r782542 [2]), and I thought this should be normal.
The reason we were both surprised is _probably_ because svn updates all the PDF files regardless of whether they have been logically updated since FOP timestamps every file it generates (according to FAQ Question 1.2. in [3].)
