Issues with Ganglia

Hi,

In the latest savanna launched hadoop clusters we are seeing ganglia issues - ganglia is initially down and the metrics are either not displayed or partially displayed in the web console. We see errors of the following type in the linux messages log (/var/log/messages):

Jan 8 15:45:22 test2-master-001 /usr/sbin/gmond[1280]: [PYTHON] Can't call the metric handler function for [tcpext_tcploss_percentage] in the python module [netstats].#012
Jan 8 15:45:22 test2-master-001 /usr/sbin/gmond[1280]: [PYTHON] Can't call the metric handler function for [tcp_retrans_percentage] in the python module [netstats].#012
Jan 8 15:45:22 test2-master-001 /usr/sbin/gmond[1280]: [PYTHON] Can't call the metric handler function for [tcp_outsegs] in the python module [netstats].#012

Jan 8 15:45:22 test2-master-001 /usr/sbin/gmond[1280]: [PYTHON] Can't call the metric handler function for [tcp_attemptfails] in the python module [netstats].#012
Jan 8 15:45:28 test2-master-001 modprobe: FATAL: Error inserting ipv6 (/lib/modules/2.6.32-358.el6.x86_64/kernel/net/ipv6/ipv6.ko): Key was rejected by service
Jan 8 15:45:28 test2-master-001 kernel: Module signature verification failed

I have manually shutdown the gmond and gmetad processes on test2-master-001 and restarted the Ganglia service from the Ambari console. That does appear to bring up the Ganglia service successfully (green dot) and clear up the error messages above, but the console is still not displaying certain metrics:

  Host info:
Centos 6.4 host with the following kernel etc:
	[root@test2-master-001 ~]# uname -a
	Linux test2-master-001 2.6.32-358.el6.x86_64 #1 SMP Fri Feb 22 00:31:26 UTC 2013 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

Savanna is an openstack project for deploying hadoop, and we are using centos 6.4 images pre-configured with a number of packages, but the ganglia packages are downloaded by ambari during the installation which I suppose explains why this issue has appeared lately - we had no ganglia issues prior to the last week or so (new ganglia packages?)

  Any ideas?

— Jon
