I'm closing this issue since I've learned that including the dependency binary JAR in a convenience binary does create a Derivative Work according to the Apache License 2.0 so we do have to take the dependency NOTICE into account.

For the source-only distribution, we don't have to take NOTICE into account.

Feel free to reopen this if incorrect.
