Java Web Start

Hi all,

Is there any way to use Batik without JWS?

It just seems like one more thing to make users install, and lots of potential
problems.

Can batik work as a normal applet?

Thanks,

Jason

Thanks Will, thats really cool.

It loaded up over my cable modem in about 30 seconds. The drawing was also
pretty fast.

I'm going to start playing with Batik soon.

I forgot to mention -- don't worry about the ECMAScript error; just click
ok. I never got rid of the error because I wasn't using Batik's scripting
capabilities at all anyway. (I told you it's a buggy applet!)

Will.

Don't spread this around too far (because it's not very good), but if you go
here:
http://www.cl.cam.ac.uk/~whb21/svgDrawApplet/svgDraw.html
you'll find a very simple, very buggy, and very incomplete SVG drawing
applet I wrote to start learning Batik.

cheers,
Will.

Yes it can be used as an applet, but the batik jars are a bit of a big
download for the user. (Over a LAN or broadband, this is fine. Over a slow
modem it could be a slight issue). JWS has better sharing of JARs between
applications than many web browsers' JREs which reduces the issue.

Will.
