How to run Consumer for a Long time

Hi

i am using CDH kafka_2.10 0.9.0-kafka-2.0.0,

i wrote a java kafka consumer process which needs to be run for  long time,
8-10 hrs.
what are the properties do i need to set in order to run consumer for a
long time.

how can i achieve real time processing with Kafka.

can some one guide me through this
