Specifying ANT files

I would like to specify an ant file other than build.xml.

Is there anyway to do that?

Thank you

Hi,

I've been lurking here for ages, but this w/e I started actually using GUMP.
It has been so much easier to set up than I had expected, and it works so well that I must say THANK YOU for an excellent tool.

I can't tell you what you what to invest in.

No worries, I wasn't expecting you too. I am going into this w/ my eyes wide
open.

However, whatever choice you make will influence others.

Nice to believe, but not so much as the choice you make... ;-)

	Each based on the assertion
that Gump won't take off until it is rewritten.

I wouldn't be so presumptive. Gump has "taken off" (IMHO) it is achieving
what it set out to, it does so daily. If other folks don't install it for
private projects, so be it. I wonder if there are three reasonable
objectives for gump (1) central continuous integration builds for open
source, as an "automated build agent" (2) same but for private projects (3)
general multi-project build tool. Maybe gump isn't used for (3) yet, and
maybe it oughtn't be. Heck maybe that is a different beast, that isn't gump,
who knows. Whatever, I think gump needs to be judged against the three
separate objectives. A re-write oughtn't be to make it succeed (it has) but
to allow it to grow further -- perhaps into (2)/(3).

Python seems a good tool for developing all aspects of Gump (interaction w/
command line tools, creating output, forking builders) so a one language
implementation other than a multiple language implementation. I don't know
how to write Python, but I believe it is the best tool for this job that
I've seen proposed.

As a users I would rather learn/debug/patch that do the same w/ the scripts
output today. A such, I'd certainly +1 on Python.

If development of the Python base were to rekindle, I would contribute
	to the effort.

I simply don't want to produce yet another codebase for
which I am perceived as the primary, if not sole, author.

My only "problem" with the Python base was it was heading in the direction
of (3) whilst (initially) leaving (1) and (2) behind. I'd happily work with
a Python gump so long as the (1) and (2) features are supported. I would
like to help w/ (2) -- so folks could customize the HTML output, and perhaps
connect to other source code repository types (than CVS). As you said, if
development of the Python base were to rekindle I'd assist as best I can.

That I can help with. Project gump created. Two components are
	defined: java/xslt and python.

Thanks, I'll plug some in later this week.

Mind adding a third? Metadata (aka GOM). It seems to cross both
	descriptions.

Hmm, and a 4th perhaps? I'd like to enter some enhancement requests for Gump
in general, neither Java/xslt nor Python.

BTW: I just entered a couple of bugs and bugzilla said it was sending her,
as well as to me. I received mine, but I do not see a copy on this list. Is
the list rejecting the mail perhaps, or is it just slow?

I can't tell you what you what to invest in. However, whatever choice
you make will influence others. There have been attempts to rewrite
Gump in Java. In Ant. And now in Python. Each based on the assertion
that Gump won't take off until it is rewritten.

And yet the original Java/XSLT base persists.

If development of the Python base were to rekindle, I would contribute
to the effort. I simply don't want to produce yet another codebase for
which I am perceived as the primary, if not sole, author.

I've never noticed any effects of vm="1.2". I can guess what it attempts to
convey, but is it respected?

I added some rudimentary docs for the attributes up there. Granted,
I can't confirm if my docs are correct, so could someone lend another
pair of eyes to it?

No, none at all.

If the extent of the problem is that a question gets asked and the
solution already exists, then we can help out.

Now that I know what can be done, I can help out with some of the docs.

good :)

I dont know about anyone else but I suspect the python version is the "right"
thing to do but AFAIK all of the existing gump builds still use the java
version. The first step to transferring to python-gump would be to get
current gump builds done with that though I haven't looked at it so not sure
how feasible this is.

Just send it here. If no one picks up on it then resend it with a more
prominent subject :)

I am a pretty heavily invested user, right now, and hope to become even more
so. I'd happily contribute more than I do. I've considered working on
supplying gump patches in order to work toward contributor status one day,
but I feel that gump is in limbo between existing and Python
implementations. I am not sure which to invest in. Same with documentation
changes. A decision on the future of Gump would certainly help me...

Further, I couldn't find Gump in bugzilla (am I just missing it?) so I can't
even contribute enhancement requests/bug reports. I have a few I need to do.

Is there any reason that you can't commit the change?

There is no question that this is my bug, my failing, my oversight.

However, (and this isn't directed specificaly at you, Berin), as long as
Gump is perceived as my codebase it doesn't really belong here.

I did. There was no documentation saying how I would use
"gump-build.xml" vs. "build.xml"

We are in the process of converting to Maven, but want to
keep gump using a minimal build to ensure everything works.
