For the trunk version, we can simply update the version number. However, for 4.1, 4.0 and 3.9, we must also remove the workarounds introduced by KAFKA-19359

this can also handle the issue raised by https://lists.apache.org/thread/lf85mcxb0zlgv5noovhyr94khrd6sv0o
