Alternative backend

Hello all,

I'm interested in writting a custom backend, but the example in 
http://svn.apache.org/viewvc/directory/sandbox/akarasulu/custom-partition 
only shows the code for the partition.

Can anybody help me in deploying and configuring the custom partition?
