1. In the FAQ

2. By the way,

In some system configurations the files in /tmp and/or in /var/tmp are
deleted after reboot.

3. It was not Shutdown command, because Tomcat 7 prints the following log
message when that happens:
"A valid shutdown command was received via the shutdown port."
