Sporadic pyzor errors

Hey all!

This is what I'm seeing:

6:00:16 homebox spamd[2311]: internal error
6:00:16 homebox spamd[2311]: pyzor: check failed: internal error

Not all the time either..just once in a while. Anything I can do to
debug this? Thanks!

James

Same here - just applied all three patches and reinstalled Pyzor, but still
get the errors. System is FreeBSD 5.4-STABLE, perl is 5.8.7, SpamAssassin is
3.1.0, python is 2.4.1. Installed pyzor via FreeBSD ports - first I ran
make, then make clean, then applied the patches, then make and make install.

It seems like the Debian package is pretty well maintainted with several
bug fixes. I would be curious to know if anyone getting this error is
on Debian.

Or you could try installing the Debian patched version on your system
and see if the errors persist.

wget \
http://ftp.us.debian.org/debian/pool/main/p/pyzor/pyzor_0.4.0+cvs20030201-4_all.deb

ar x pyzor_0.4.0+cvs20030201-4_all.deb
cd /
tar -xzf ~/data.tar.gz

This will copy the Debian Pyzor files directly into your existing file
system and assumes Python 2.3 so you may have to make adjustments.

I actually had to copy these to the pyzor source. Heading one of the
patches reveals :

[09:59:56 jlay@homebox:~/src/pyzor-0.4.0$] head patch-pyzor-handle_unknown_encodings
--- lib/pyzor/client.py	Sun Sep 8 22:37:15 2002
+++ lib/pyzor/client.py	Wed Aug  3 10:58:03 2005

So I copied both to source, patched then just copied the
pyzor-0.4.0/lib/pyzor/client.ph
to /usr/lib/python2.*/site-packages/pyzor/

Hope this helps!

Actually I had to apply all three to get rid of all the errors. I thought
the same originally and didn't apply the first patch, but still kept
getting errors.

I'm assuming that the first "scanning of mailboxes" patch is not the one
that fixes this error so I only applied the other two.

Having downloaded the patches, find your pyzor installation. Usually
something like:

cd /usr/lib/python2.2/site-packages/pyzor/

Then apply the patches like:

patch client.py < ~/patch-pyzor-handle_unknown_encodings
patch client.py < ~/patch-pyzor-unknowntype

Order is important with these two.

Having rarely used patch, could someone give an example of how to apply the pyzor patches please?

Thanks

Applied patches now. I contacted the author of pyzor to include that
pages directly, so all people have them. HTH.

FWIW, Pyzor has always done this, SA just didn't log it before.

Ah. There were some changes in 3.1 dealing with alarm interrupts that
triggered this.
Current thinking is that this is a fairly benign pyzor bug. There is
apparently a pyzor patch or two that makes it go away.
