can be done globally using properties:
asynchronous-pool.core-size, asynchronous-pool.max-size and asynchronous-pool".keep-alive.

or locally for an app using META-INF/resources.xml and the particular service (note the id can be the app id too):
<Service id="asynchronous-pool" class-name="java.util.Properties">
    core-size = 10
    max-size = 20
    keep-alive = 60
</Service>

Note: the pool is created by application
