[Issue 126126] New: Open Office download warns of Malware detection
https://bz.apache.org/ooo/show_bug.cgi?id=126126
Issue ID: 126126
Issue Type: DEFECT
Summary: Open Office download warns of Malware detection
Product: Installation
Version: 4.0.0
Hardware: PC
OS: Windows 8
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: critical
Priority: P5
Component: ui
Assignee: issues@openoffice.apache.org
Reporter: pmostyn@gmail.com
Have tried downloading OpenOffice several times, and each time AVG is detecting
Malware in the download. After visiting many forum post with similar issues, it
appears the standard advice is to ensure you are going via the correct website.
After checking multiple times, it appears i am indeed on the correct site
http://sourceforge.net/projects/openofficeorg.mirror/?source=typ_redirect
Please correct if I am wrong about the correct website to obtain oo software
from. Really need this software, and know from past experience it is a reliable
alternative to Microsoft office.
Please help resolve this issue, or tell me how to get around the dire warning I
am receiving. All posts have read mention having serious issues of losing
control of browsers and even entire systems, so would rather not lose control
of system if can help it.
As about to send this issue, interesting to note that version 4.1.1 is giving
the same malware detection issue no matter how many times I try, yet have been
able to successfully install version 4.0.0 without issues as yet.

It's very likely that the alarm report is a false positive. We haven't seen a
valid virus infection up to now.
Furthermore, please make sure that you download from original sources only. For
OpenOffice it's [1] which forwards to a special directory at Sourceforge.net.
