safe return value

I don't know if I'm in the right place here so please forgive me if not.

I have a web service built with the axis framework and this service returns a file (as binary[])
to the client.

If during the transfer of the (possible big) file the connection fails, the client receives an error
but my service does not notice that.
Can this problem be solved with Sandesha or do I have to implement a protocol myself?

Or is there another WS technology that would help me?

Thank you for your time.
Laci
