> Sometimes kafka is made to run as a service in an external container. This container usually disables the individual services from exiting the process by installing a security manager. The right fix is to implement the startup and shutdown logic of kafka using the interfaces provided by these containers which would involve more work. For 0.8, we will simply call halt as the last step of shutdown and startup during a failure.
