I made a very simple source file using some of the functions  listed in the
error message, and then compiled it with your command line without errors.

It looks like you're compiling a 32-bit library on a 64-bit system.  Are you
sure the xalan libraries are 32-bit?

If that's not it, can you provide more info? Compiler version, OS version,
origin of the xalan libs, a small source file that reproduces the problem, etc.
