How do I use the FileLogger?

I have a logger set-up inside my host defined as:

     <Logger className="org.apache.catalina.logger.FileLogger"
directory="logs"  prefix="justicexchange_log." suffix=".txt"
timestamp="true"/>

How do I send output to it?
