Switching trunk build to jdk1.7; will break some tests
I'll switch the trunk build to JDK7 unless objection next week.
It'll break tests. Jimmy Xiang figured this a while ago and he filed
https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/HBASE-6182. He also started
fixing some of the breakage. Lets help him out.
Some reasons to favor JDK7 are JDK6 is being EOL'd soon and JDK7
reportedly improves performance by noticeably percentages.

What zookeeper folks did was to setup two additional builds:
https://builds.apache.org//view/S-Z/view/ZooKeeper/job/ZooKeeper_branch34_jdk7/
https://builds.apache.org//view/S-Z/view/ZooKeeper/job/ZooKeeper_branch34_openjdk7/
The first one above is based on Oracle jdk and the second is based on
openjdk.
We can consider setting up similar build structure.
Cheers

Looks like 1.7 Update 7 has some security issues.

There're a lot of test failures so far.
Please clarify whether trunk on jdk 1.6 would be supported.
Thanks

That sounds perfect, because trunk against hadoop2 is going to have
issues just because of hadoop2.

Lets try having the trunk against hadoop2 be jdk6 and trunk against
hadoop1 be jdk7?
I'm going to make the switch of trunk against hadoop1 now.

P.S. Thanks for heads up Fuad.

How are we making sure that HBase still compiles and works fine on JDK6?
Should we have jenkins builds for both for a while. Or is that too many variations?
I suppose we can switch all (trunk) builds to JDK7 and one build for JDK6 on Hadoop1.

I had problems running Hadoop CDH3U3 Pi Example with JDK1.6.0_32 on 64-bit
CentOS this Summer; this specific version of Java 6 had a bug with floating
point calculations on 64-bit Linux.
JDK1.6.0_31 works just fine (no any sensible bugs encountered)
