When loading a file, the heading numbering format displays as .1 etc, whereas
it was set and saved as 1. etc.

Your document is only with header2 style.
If I add or change for header1 style: no problem.

That looks like a language problem. Please make sure, that you have set the
correct language in all places.
Please attach such a document. You can use dummy text, but it needs to have the
structure and all the styles you use.

Not reproduce with AOO 4.1.1 and WinXP.
Read previous comment and provide any requested information
Once all of this is done, please set the bug back to UNCONFIRMED and we will
attempt to reproduce the issue.
