Preferred C/C++ client library
Hello,
Can anyone please point me towards the best API library to use for C or
C++ clients? Pillowtalk seems to be abandoned at an early stage. The
Glib library seems to be more complete, but I can't find any useful API
documentation.

I've not looked at any of the C++ Libs, however they are probably only
a fairly thin layer on top of the REST interface. Inadequate docs are
always frustrating and all too common. Even the CouchApp Javascript
library suffers from this.
Is there any way you can use Javascript and then interface to that
from your C++ code. That's what I'd be trying to do as JS is a better
fit for CouchDB. And yes I'm a C++ dev, but trying to move more to JS.

the documentation is included in the source code, so you you just need
to install gtk-doc-tools and run autogen.sh/configure with
--enable-gtk-doc, that will build HTML for the API.
It's still not fully complete though

I've emailed Rodrigo, and he says:
"it is built with the sources, so if you have the original tarball:
$ ./autogen.sh --enable-gtk-doc
then make in 'doc' subdir should build HTML for the documentation."
which works! Thanks for your help.

Yeah, I haven't seen anything like that yet, but I'll keep my eyes peeled.
You could contact Rodrigo and I think he also monitors this mailing list,
but I could be wrong.

Thanks, those are useful links. What's really required though is more
formal documentation of each function call in the library. For example,
what parameters does couchdb_document_info_get_docid() require? What
value does it return? What errors can it raise? I see a reference to a
data structure "CouchdbDocumentInfo". What fields does it contain? When
do these need to be set? And so on...

Sure, here's the author's blog[1] who talk about other projects that
probably use it. You could find good usage of it there and there's an
example in the source[2].

Hello Alistair,
There's a GLib-based API to talk to CouchDB located here:

I'm a little put off by the 0.0.1 version number and lack of
documentation. How mature is it?

I'm using couchdbpp with success in a current project:
