Incubator PMC/Board report preparation

Hi everyone,

Trying to get an overview of what needs to be done for our first board
report of July. First question is ... Who will file the report? I am
guessing one of the mentors?

My input for the report is a bit sparse still since it still feels a bit
like we're waiting for the initial steps to take place with the source code
migration. This might be an issue to report though.

We might also want to mention that since the Incubator accepted MetaModel,
there's obviously been a lot of attention around the project. I've posted
some mentionings on TheServerSide.com and I'm putting the final touches on
an article for InfoQ.com as well (expected published later this week). I
hope this will bring more people to the community.

In terms of project development; Nothing has happened in terms of the
Apache codebase. But at the old location (eobjects.org) we did do a bugfix
release (3.4.4) for which each issue's revisions have been tracked [1] so
that we can easily apply it to the Apache codebase when available.

Cheers,
Kasper

I've asked InfoQ for those specific points/corrections.

Thanks for sharing the link Henry. I glanced through this and have the
following recommendation:

1. While the project is undergoing incubation, such articles should
preferably be written as blog posts on ASF blog and then cross-posted
elsewhere.
2. The project name MetaModel is now an ASF mark and should be qualified
when referenced for the first time e.g. "Apache MetaModel"
3. For incubating projects, it is a requirement that any reference to them
have a disclaimer clearly articulated that identifies its incubation
status. For instance, adding a disclaimer such as this should suffice:
"Apache MetaModel is currently undergoing incubation at The Apache Software
Foundation. More information on this project is available at
http://incubator.apache.org/metamodel"
4. Last but not least, it is best to send any articles that need to be
published for internal review on the dev list and the press@a.o for review
feedback and approval in order to ensure compliance with branding policies
etc.

For this particular article, since it has been published, I suggest
contacting the publisher to request addition of the disclaimer (#3) and
minor edit to make sure that the first mention of MetaModel is "Apache
MetaModel".

Arvind Prabhakar

Hi Arvind,

Thanks for your insight.
I believe this is the link to the article
http://www.infoq.com/articles/apache-incubator-metamodel

Looks like it is focusing more on what is metamodel instead of ASF and
incubating itself.

Let me know if you guys think we need to contact ASF press team about this.

Thx,

Henry

Thanks Henry for posting the report. My apologies for not being able to
chime in sooner - I was away from email for the last couple of weeks.

Although I am signing off on the report, I want to draw your attention to
the Incubator branding guidelines noted in [1]. Specifically, the Incubator
places severe restrictions on what can be publicly announced when the
project is incubating. I call this out because I see the mention of
TheServerSide.com and InfoQ.com.

It will be helpful if you can send us a link to what was published so that
we can glance through it and provide any feedback. Also, please pardon me
if you have already sent it - I am just starting to go through my email
backlog and have not reach all of them yet.

Hi Noah,

I believe once podling has been approved to join incubator the PPMC members
are the mentors and initial committers.

So we pretty much are the PPMC if I understand it correctly and from my
previous incubator experience.

If we had a PPMC, I'd suggest someone on that who isn't a mentor file it.
We should probably start electing people to the PPMC as soon as possible.

Actually anyone in Podling developers could file report [1]

But I will drive the first report and we could take turns next time so
everyone in the podling familiar on how to do it.

I have signed off on the report now. Thanks!
