Postgres and SQL Server.

Hi,

I'm using Turbine with MySQL for more than one year. It's great.

A client needs an application with transactions. So I need to change the DB
server.

Before I choose another DB, I would like to know if anybody has already used
Postgres and SQL Server (my client has already a SQL Server DB).

Do you have advises about this two database server ?

Thanks,

Hervé

You know, you can define your own TurbineUserPeer instead of modifying
the Turbine source...

Yes, that is the Hashtable of TurbineUser that pose problem whith
PostGresql. When I comment the method "setPermStorage" in the
TurbineUserPeer file from the cvs sources of turbine, all is going
good...

I have run into an issue with Postgres and Village. The error
I get occurs in flux and most likely has something to do
with blobs. When I get back home (I'm in SF right now) I plan
to track the error down. Flux works with Postgres in Tambora
but we are using village 1.3 so something has gone amiss
somewhere. I will find it soon.

I am also building a box which will have all the supported
turbine databases installed on it and I'm going to set up
a testing harness with the TDK so that the TDK sample
application will be build over and over again using all
the database configurations to make sure things keep
working over time.

Looking at the source code, it will look at the TurbineResources file for
all of the

database.adaptor

entries, and if it matches one in the
java/org/apache/turbine/util/db/adapter

source directory, it will load it, otherwise it will fail with that error
message.

Try putting

database.adaptor=DBMSSQL
database.adaptor.DBMSSQL=weblogic.jdbc.mssqlserver4.Driver

into your TurbineResources.properties file.
Looks like that driver just uses the Sybase adapator code.

Turbine developers - let me know if I am way off :)

to be exact, I'm triyng to use MSsql with jetspeed...so, as the db
"interface" for jetspeed is provided by turbine, I'm indirectly using it
with turbine

in fact, one of the jetspeed configuration files, named
"TurbineResources.properties" is designated to contain the db connection URL
for your jetspeed webapp, by means of four lines looking like this
database.default.driver=weblogic.jdbc.mssqlserver4.Driver

database.default.url=jdbc:weblogic:mssqlserver4:turbine_jetspeed@localhost:1
433

database.default.username=sa

database.default.password=

the parameters are correct, but the stack trace present me with:...

Error=Turbine.handleException: Error in
BasePeer.initTableSchema(TURBINE_USER):
Database type weblogic.jdbc.mssqlserver4.Driver not implemented.

sean, have you got any suggestion about how to make SQL Server work with
turbine?
I'm trying to make it with BEA's weblogicSQL driver (type 4), but to no
avail...

We have used both in a production environment, and they both work well. SQL
Server is actually a very good database, though we prefer *nix stuff. I
would recommened PostgreSQL over it though since it's free and open source.
I think (pretty sure) the only good JDBC drivers for SQL Server are
commercial, except JDBC-ODBC and the freetds stuff, which is not recommended
for a production environment. Any one used a non-commercial JDBC driver in
the wild with SQL Server?

More than a year ago now...

Sure, it might not have been 100% stable up until a few months ago, but it
has been in there for quite some time.

Hi,

Given that this is a recent development, has anyone actually had any
experience with the MySQL transaction support? Is it considered ready to
be used in a production environment?

I know this is off-topic, but I am considering using MySQL transactions
with Turbine in my current project. Any comments would be really
appreciated.

Thanks,
