Is it OK to add fromDate and thruDate to FixedAssetIdent entity

Is it ok to add fromDate and thruDate to FixedAssetIdent entity? I know it
may sound weird but our users like to reuse their internal Id for a
fixedAsset after a fixedAsset has reached endOfLife.

I don't know... that sounds like a pretty bad practice to me. You
would never know for sure which item you're dealing with...

From a modeling perspective reusing an ID should be fine because
those IDs are not guaranteed to be unique or anything. Still would
you need a from/thru date for this? Would reusing the ID without the
from/thru date work? Based on what you describe a thruDate would
actually be redundant because it should be the same as the end of
life date for the FixedAsset.

Re-using the internal id is really bad practice, because you will be
deleting the old data and will therefore loose your history. When the
auditor comes and asks for details of your end of life assets you will be in
trouble.

As a general principle for business, data should never be deleted, but
should be superseded. Even a cursory glance will show that ofbiz follows
that principle.

Sometimes we have to guide our client/customer back to the true path.

Hope that helps.

Kind regards,

Andrew Ballantine.
