Once a second, we perform various periodic tasks with the logging thread, for example, calculate how much disk space is consumed by all logs. This can consume some noticeable amount of CPU, if there are a huge number of files. I'm suggesting we might reduce the frequency on this periodic task to maybe once every 5s - 10s.
