Here is an overview of the issue:
---------------------------------------------------------------------
        Key: MPPLUGIN-29
    Summary: plugin:repository-deploy: Goal name inconsistent
       Type: Improvement

     Status: Open
   Priority: Major

 Original Estimate: Unknown
 Time Spent: Unknown
  Remaining: Unknown

    Project: maven-plugin-plugin
   Versions:
             1.6

   Assignee: dion gillard
   Reporter: Matthias Kerkhoff

    Created: Sun, 22 Aug 2004 5:25 AM
    Updated: Sun, 22 Aug 2004 5:25 AM

Description:
The plugin plugin follows a naming convention which is different from the other plugins in regard to 'install' and 'deploy'. Although the goal names used from the plugin:plugin -- repository-install and repository-deploy -- _do_ clearly communicate their intention they violate the convention established and expected from the multiproject plugin.

Th differing names of both the install and deploy goals prevent building (and deploy or installing) plugin and non-plugin artifacts in one multiproject run.

Please the same goal name for the same action but different goal names for different actions. As a side effect this may also lead to better conformance with the user's expectations.
