[M2] putting it all together for 1st project
Perhaps this will email will actually be useful as a piece of
documentation, since I couldn't find this on the maven2 website. I have
a couple of questions in here as well:
setting up a web project
* have got to the point where 'Getting Started' finishes
* as it is simple stuff with a single user at this point, I don't need
~/.m2/settings.xml yet
* dependencies listed in my pom.xml, using versions available on
http://www.ibiblio.org/maven2/
* dependencies that are licensed & therefore not on ibiblio must be
downloaded and manually placed in my own local repository, which maven
automatically set up at the start. Should I try to follow the new M2
structure? What would that group id and the dir structure be for
javax.xml.bind.* or jaxb v1.0.5 for jaxb-api.jar, jaxb-impl.jar,
jaxb-libs.jar and jaxb-xjc.jar? javax.xml.bind? I can't find any
documentation that gives advice on this.
* what do i do with the other xml related jars that come out of the Java
Web Services Developer Pack's shared dir? namespace, relaxng, xsdlib?
Same question as above I guess.
* on each licensed dependency, I make a *.pom file with minimal content
and put it in the local repo - what is the minimal content? Can it be
absolutely empty? I saw jdbc:jdbc:jdbc-2.0.pom on ibiblio. Are any more
pom files going to be put on ibiblio? If so, again some advice would be
good.
* cranky ones like jdbc-2.0 could be explained with a note in the *.pom
on ibiblio - I had to google for this piece of advice:
If/when Maven complains about not being able to download jdbc-2.0.jar
and jndi-1.2.1.jar you will need to download these manually and install
them in your local Maven repository due to licensing. jdbc-2.0 is
available at [WWW] http://java.sun.com/products/jdbc/download.html under
the file name jdbc2_0-stdext.jar (click on the download link for JDBC
2.0 Optional Package Binary to get it). Download it, rename it to
jdbc-2.0.jar and put it into the .maven/repository/jdbc/jars in your
home directory. jndi-1_2_1.zip is available from [WWW]
http://java.sun.com/products/jndi/downloads/ (click the download link
for Download JNDI 1.2.1 & More to get to it) - copy the file
lib/jndi.jar into the directory .maven/repository/jndi/jars in your home
diretory and rename it to jndi-1.2.1.jar. Do same for other jars.
Hope this is informative, and thanks in advance for any answers.
Adam

Ok, the best thing to do here is to report anything you can't find on
ibiblio. Even stuff that we can't distribute the binary for, we can
put up a POM for so that we can give a better error message, as you
saw with the jdbc example.

Yes, some of these probably are distributable and should be located
and uploaded.

Please submit any you create to http://jira.codehaus.org/browse/MEV.
The JDBC one gives a good indication: group ID, artifact ID and
version are all that is needed to work, but to upload we'd like name,
description, download URL, and dependencies if it has any.
Thanks,
