Binary Packages Page - New Unified Windows Installer

Hi,

Given that the new win32 MSI installer will now include both apache 2.0 and
apache 2.2 binaries (and selectively installed by way of radio-button
selection), it doesn't make sense to include it into the traditional
binaries download pages anymore.

My thoughts are that the windows installer should now be separated into its
own page, and the binary packages page on tigris.org changed to include the
windows installers near the tigris.org apache binaries releases. Can I get
thoughts on this? When I produce the 1.5 installer I'll need somewhere to
put it, so it makes sense to sort that out now.

I'll commit the new installer source if the installer tests out OK. The new
installer works for me but won't be released until it's tested and confirmed
to work against apache 2.0 & 2.2 - which I can't really do. We can do that
pretty soon after the binaries are released (providing we have any
volunteers who can test that).

Well done on the new release!

Regards,

Troy Simpson

Yes, I'm thinking of having a new folder where the installers will go, and a
new link on the main binaries page near the tigris.org binary distribution
links for the win32 installer that points to the new folder. That way,
people can retrieve the separate apache bound binaries if they want from the
old locations, or just go straight for the new installer link that can
install either apache binding.

I see what you're saying, there's two links on this page:

http://subversion.tigris.org/getting.html#windows

to two separate folders. So replacing those two with one should work.

The main point was that exactly the same installer will be uploaded to two
places. I can certainly do that, I was just wondering whether it was the
most logical thing to do. If there's no more discussion I'll just upload
the same file twice.

Incidentally, the new page looks nice but it took me some time to
re-discover the old win32 binaries locations. That was another factor why I
was thinking that way - most windows users will just be looking for a win32
installer, so if it is the list as "win32 installer" then there'll be less
questions on how to find it.

Agreed. I don't see how having a unified installer requires a separate page.

I don't understand why we would need new links and pages. Why
wouldn't you just put the installer the same place we always have and
use the existing links? I could maybe see adding one more link on the
page that is specifically to the installer, but I also kind of like
the way it currently works as then people can see all the different
download options in the list and decide the ones they want.
