Newbies need help in JSP with MySQL
Hi there, I'm very new to JSP.
I already installed Tomcat and MySQL both are running after some testing.
I'm now trying to create a JSP page which can interact with MySQL. Maybe
just a simple database as a start, let say keying text and displaying the
text after a click of button.
I understand that JDBC is needed so I downloaded mm.mysql-2.0.4-bin.jar.
Now the problem is, how am I suppose to configure the JDBC, or watever that
is needed to be configured??
If can plz provide detail steps.
Your help is highly appreciated.
TQ.

I imagine you're talking about setting the CLASSPATH while running a web
app? For a web application, just place the JDBC driver JAR file inside of
the /WEB-INF/lib directory for the application, and your imports will find
it at runtime.

Thanks for telling.
After doing the searches on the net, I found out that I didn't install the
mm Mysql jdbc driver correctly.
Now that I have installed it, I'm facing another problem of setting the
ClassPath. Hope someone can help me on this. I find the documentation for
this mm mysql very confusing.

Hi Lee,
Check http://java.sun.com/ for how to use JDBC. You don't have to do
anything to Tomcat or create any special config files or anything.
If you're new to JSPs and servlets, you'll want to find some online
tutorials about them. They will tell you about Java web applications and
whatnot. http://java.sun.com/ is another place to start for this. If
you're new to JSPs, JDBC, and web apps, those are three entirely too huge
things to introduce you to over a mailing list. If you have a specific
Tomcat question, we'll be happy to try and help you.
Good luck!
