Interested in being involved/working on the curated helm repos for bigdata distribution

Hey folks,

I am interested in getting involved and contributing to the curated helm
repos for bigdata distribution. I previously worked as a solutions
architect at Mesosphere working heavily with the SMACK stack and have had a
role as the lead Kubernetes Solutions Architect at Platform9 systems where
I have curated helm packages for our managed Kubernetes offering and worked
heavily on making the OLM easily consumable

Prior to going back in the field I was our PM for all 3 products and worked
heavily on documentation, release cycles, and sprints...

I am really excited to get involved with the ASF Is anyone willing to help
mentor me on how I can help with the release? I am happy to assist with
release docs and crafting those whenever needed as well

Cheers,
Eric

I totally agree to support two kind of distros and make the transient more
smoothly.
But is it too much effort to move all the CNB stuffs into contrib in master?

Re: Interested in being involved/working on the curated helm repos for bigdata distribution

Posted by "Youngwoo Kim (김영우)" <yw...@apache.org>.
Folks,

For a few days I'm considering Jay's idea about CNB into 'contrib' on
master.
I believe CNB is not a replacement current distros and also it should be
one track of our "two-tracks" of making distribution because there are
existing users that running traditional distributions.
I think it's a good idea! As a contrib module we can provide chances to
users to try k8s stuffs within our future release. Any time soon,
transitions will happen but that will not happen in a day or two.

So, I'm positive on CNB at master branch as a contrib.

What do you think?

Thanks,
Youngwoo

Good point Jay,

Current development branch on CNB is
https://github.com/apache/bigtop/tree/cnb But if you guys are prefer
'contrib' on master branch over feature branch, that's OK 👌 One day, we
can reduce serious rebase work to merge 'cnb' into master.

At this point, we need a concrete architecture as a cloud native
distribution or product. feel free to let us know your thoughts.

Thanks,
Youngwoo

If we don’t yet have code, I will suggest making a contrib/ directory on master so PRs can easily be made and we can merge these ideas and iterate in them.

I think Eric has spare cycles to hack / test the stuff on github into a sensible PR and organize it so you and others can iterate against it.

... concretely : Eric for now please comb through existing jiras for kubernetes related stuff and see if they make any sense to you. If they don’t make sense please send us an email on how you’d suggest organizing the work.
