Excel cannot Read file modified by poi but open office able to open it

Hi,
I am modifing an XL file cantaining multiple sheets.
Everything works fine but when I try to open it using
MS excel 2000 it says that cannot read file. But open
office is able to read it. I can see that poi had
modified the file in the way it was intended(when
viewing thro' open office).

As per Glen's (earlier suggestion in some other
thread)suggestion I tried to do a Manual update of the
file and then used biffViewer and did a diff of the
files but the diff ran into more than 20 MBs. 

Has some got any suggestion on this.
