[Bug 120791] New: Paragraph formatting bug: too much vertical space between paragraphs

https://issues.apache.org/ooo/show_bug.cgi?id=120791

          Priority: P3
            Bug ID: 120791
          Assignee: ooo-issues@incubator.apache.org
Summary: Paragraph formatting bug: too much vertical space
                    between paragraphs
          Severity: normal
        Issue Type: DEFECT
    Classification: Application
                OS: Mac OSX, 10.6
          Reporter: vartan@alum.mit.edu
          Hardware: All
            Status: UNCONFIRMED
           Version: AOO 3.4.1
         Component: formatting
           Product: word processor

Created attachment 79276
  --> https://issues.apache.org/ooo/attachment.cgi?id=79276&action=edit
Sample file that demonstrates the formatting bug

Paragraph spacing is not adjusting correctly to reflect the paragraph style.

See the third line in the sample file provided, the line that begins "Paragraph
style is 'Default'"...

The spacing below the line is too much for a paragraph of style "Default". See
the last three lines of text in the file, which do format correctly, for
comparison.

I tried formatting the line to no avail. I set the cursor on the third line
and opened Format -> Paragraph... "Indents & Spacing" -> Spacing.

I set the spacing for "Above Paragraph" and "Below Paragraph" to 0.00" but no
change occurred. Line spacing is set to "Single".

Only this line is anomalous. I do see that other lines are formatted correctly
when setting the "Default" or "Text body" paragraph styles, as evidenced by the
last four lines in the file.

I tried deleting the paragraph spacing to combine the incorrectly formatted
paragraph with the one below it. I then hit "carriage return" to create a new
paragraph but the spacing was still wrong. If there is a hidden paragraph or
some control character or something, I sure was not able to delete it.

The paragraph line uses as much space as needed for the characters. You have
used "square"-signs with a character size of 20pt in those paragraphs, although
the other characters are only of 9pt.

If you will force the lines to a spacing that fits to 9pt, you have to use a
fixed line height. Otherwise the line height is set to the largest character.

That has nothing to do with "Spacing above paragraph" or "Spacing below
paragraph" but is the setting "Line spacing".

You can use a square shape, which is anchored as character, instead of the
"square" sign.
