sorry; the expected in the above case is 2 - I think I was not entirely in the picture when I've filed the jira...

for {{char(n)}} types the content is "padded" with spaces all the time: so the following evaluates to true 
{code}
select cast('a' as char(10)) = cast('a ' as char(10));
{code}
